Lauren Bortfeld


Hello everyone! I hope all of you had a great summer. My name is Lauren Bortfeld and I am the Spanish 1 and 2 teacher here at Porter. I went to the University of Mary Washington where I received a B.A. in Spanish and my Master's of Education. I just came back from teaching in Argentina and I am very much looking forward to teaching all of my students what I have learned during my time in South America. ClassTag - Receive updates about upcoming events or volunteer for class field trips, etc.

Week-at-a-glance:

1-16-2019

Due to today's two-hour delay, we have to push my two tests this week to Thursday and Friday. The reading test will be tomorrow and the writing test will be on Friday. The listening and the speaking tests are still on the 22nd and 23rd.

 1-15-2019

Reminder: This week we have two unit tests. The reading test is tomorrow and the writing test is on Thursday. Students can use the study guide as well as the practice activities I have on Edmodo to study. Students also have a chance to retake the test before or after school if they get a 70% or below, but they have to do the retake before the 25th. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to email me. 

1-11-2019

We have Unit tests coming up!

January 16th = reading test
January 17th = writing test
January 22nd = listening test
January 23rd = speaking test

The reading test will still be on the 16th even if school is cancelled on Monday.

The study guide as well as other practice activities are all on Edmodo for the students. Feel free to email me if you have any questions. I also can tutor next week if your child needs help, they just need to let me know ahead of time. Have a good weekend!

WORLD LANGUAGE POSTER CONTEST

If you're child is participating in the poster contest, The deadline is January 23rd, so they cannot give me the poster any later (unless there is a snow day). Their poster will be judged on Applicability to theme ("Languages are the key to the world"), clarity of purpose (how well the theme is conveyed), originality and artistic merit. On the 23rd, each school will choose ONE poster to represent their school. If your child is picked then they will be a candidate for the division-wide portion of the contest. Look at the "poster contest" folder on "files and documents" for more details!

PWCS World Language Poster Contest Winners

1-4-2019
Students just did a quiz on AR verbs today. They will be put in the grade-book today, though they should already know their score. They can retake it if their score is below a 70%.

Unit tests are coming up soon! I will give the official dates for all four tests in the beginning of next week. We are learning one more thing in class and then we will start practicing for the reading, writing, speaking and listening tests. They will be able to retake the tests on the last week of the quarter. The last day to have the test and retakes done is January 24th. 

12-20-2018

 We are learning about AR verbs this week and how to conjugate them in the present tense. There are no quizzes this week, just a quick check. We will do a quiz on this when we get back from winter break.

Retakes! Even though quizzes are only 20% of your grade it still wouldn't hurt to retake them if you have a 70 or below! Just let me know and we can schedule a time that is best for us to do it. 

If your child needs tutoring in the future, I am more than willing to help before or after school. My tutoring times are Monday morning and Tuesday after school, but if your child cannot make those times just shoot me an email and we can set something up!
