Hi! My name is Adrian Fredrick and this is my first year teaching at Porter Traditional. I have taught Physical Science for 15 years in Stafford County and have coached robotics teams for 12 years through FLL and FRC. I am certified to teach Physics, MS Social Studies, MS Science, and Business. I switched careers 16 years ago from Project Management in Aerospace and International Development. I have an M.B.A. from Chapman University and hold a B.S. in Economics from University of Mary Washington. I am excited to teach two of my passions: Science and Social Science!!!

Below are OPTIONAL weekly schedules for students and families to utilize during Home Learning. The schedules are to help with accessing resources, links, and activities; these can be completed at any time. All students are encouraged to engage in the review activities below. These activities align with PWCS's vision of 90  minutes per content area, per week for MS students. Students are encouraged to utilize this time to review and remediate objectives from the beginning of the year that they would like to improve on.Please reach out to the teacher with any questions

In Civics, this week's makeup work is on the Power and Check of Federal government. In Science, the focus is on Physical and Chemical Properties. Here's this week's 2020-0608 8th Grade Schedule.
Important Note: In order to post grades by deadline, assignments I grade automatically must be completed before June 11. Students must email Mr. Fredrick if there is work completed on June 11 and 12. All grading for 2019/2020 school year ends at 3:45 p.m. on June 12.

This week's focus for Civics is Political Parties at all levels of government. For Science, students will review the nature of matter to compare Elements, Compounds, and Mixtures. Students should view the  2020-0525 8th Grade Schedule. Please note that students have until June 8th to complete makeup work for all three quarters.

Students may work at their own pace on featured SOL strands scheduled for both Science and Civics. This week's focus for Civics is Political Parties (CE5a) and for Science it is the Elements, Compounds, and Mixtures (PS2b). Students should view the 2020-0518 8th Grade Schedule to see this week's and planned lessons through June 8th. Students who wish to improve any grade not featured may propose a project to Mr. Fredrick.

May 11, 2020
Students may now move ahead with the featured SOL strands scheduled for both Science and Civics. This week's focus for Civics is Citizenship (CE3d & CE3e) and for Science it is the Metric System (PS1bcde). Students should view the 2020-0511 8th Grade Schedule to see this week's and planned lessons through June 8th. Note that Third Quarter Civics Retake Quizzes in Edmodo have been graded up until 5/11/20. Students who wish to improve a Third Quarter grade may propose a project to Mr. Fredrick.

May 4, 2020
Students may continue to improve their grades for all three Marking Periods. This week's theme for Civics is the U.S. Constitution Preamble (CE2c) and Structure & Powers of National Government (CE6a). For science, students will revisit the nature of matter, including Particle-Kinetic Theory (PS2a) and Solids, Liquids, & Gases (PS2c). Grades for 3rd quarter will be finalized on 4/27 due to a large amount of makeups. The 4th quarter begins 4/27, and students can improve their grades for all 3 quarters. April 14, 2020
All makeup work for third quarter is posted in Edmodo for Civics and Science.  Some strands are in PhET Simulator Games and some are Edmodo quizzes.  Check the Porter 8th Grade Weekly Schedule link above for details, links to assignments, and office hours,  which will be on Zoom. Zoom invitation can be found in Edmodo during office hours.

Hopefully, everyone is enjoying their Spring Break! On April 14, we will continue with 3rd quarter makeup and remediation. Beginning April 27, we will transition to 1st and 2nd quarter remediation. All assignments are optional, per PWCS guidelines, and can only improve grades.

Many students have taken advantage of makeup and retake opportunities offered through Edmodo and by direct contact with Mr. Fredrick. As of today, third quarter grades are closing April 14th and this date may be extended by PWCS.

After Spring Break, starting April 14, Virtual Home Learning will proceed. Teachers' websites will have student schedules by grade level based on PWCS Home Learning schedule. The schedule will show all activities and links from all teachers in one place.
