A hands-on interactive club using aviation as a base for STEM real world practical applications.  Students will learn about airplane parts/construction, flight simulation, virtual piloting, and careers in aviation.

This club for 7th and 8th graders is designed to provide information and support to students who are interested in pursuing a career in medicine and biotechnology.

Here are some of things the club will be focusing on and learning about:

• In-depth extended learning of how the body functions (Anatomy/physiology).

• Learn about tools and techniques used by professionals in hospitals and laboratories.

• Research projects/opportunities.
• Study real-life cases.
• Research complex diseases and disorders.
• In depth learning about careers in biomedical engineering, and technology (educational requirements, skills, etc.)
• Lectures from guest speakers.
• Watching videos on medical procedures.
• Introduction to scientific journals.
• Fundraising for Children Hospitals.

The Porter MSA Club’s goal is to provide all students, from all faiths and backgrounds, with an opportunity to learn about Islam, and have an open dialogue.

The Porter MSA Club will provide a space for students to stay interconnected with one another and to share ideas, values, and traditions they participate in.

The National Junior Honor Society is a club dedicated to make a difference in our community and school. This powerhouse of determined young people is ready to take on anything, and once they set a goal, they're going to settle for nothing less than success!

NJHS REQUIREMENTS:

To receive a letter inviting you to apply you must first have at least a 3.0 GPA. Once you have received an invitation, you submit your application to:

* Show ways you exemplify scholarship, leadership, character, citizenship and service
* Have good teacher recommendations
* Make sure to follow all instructions on how to structure your admission essay
* Good conduct and effort grades

The Porter Student Ambassador Program is a platform for 5th through 8th grade students to make connections, enhance leadership skills, and to gain a sense of belonging within the school community. The program will provide peer support for newly enrolled students to ease their transition during the first week of school; as well friendship throughout the school year.

The program will benefit both new and existing Porter students, Porter parents, and the entire school community.

Student Ambassadors will serve the school community by:

• Leading school tours

• Supporting new students’ transition to Porter; including first day of school support for first grade students

• Providing new students and their parents with information about Porter and the community.
• Connecting to peers and faculty.
• Having lunch with a younger student.
• Handing out welcome packets/pamphlets during Porter events.
• Sharing knowledge about the school community.
• Assisting military-connected and civilian students.
• Being a positive leader, mentor, and friend.

The Student Ambassador Program encourages students to:

• Connect with peers of diverse backgrounds and interests.
• Create an inclusive school environment.
• Develop leadership skills.
• Increase school engagement and academic achievement.

Student Council (SCA) is the student governing body at our school. Each member of the Student Council is elected by their peer students. Student Council members participate in leadership, decision-making, event planning, school spirit activities, and service as representatives for their classmates.

Student Voice Committees (SVCs) aim to create meaningful partnerships between students, educators, and administrators with the goal of enhancing the climate and culture of their school building. With the ultimate goal of including students in the decision-making process, Student Voice Committees help to:

• Elevate student voice and perspective within their school and the division at large
• Strengthen the school community through action research and continuous improvement
• Support students as they hone their leadership skills
