Grading at Porter

Porter Traditional School follows Regulation 661-1 and 661-2 that outline grading practices in PWCS. The guiding principles below outline the way that Porter will implement the regulations to meet the needs of our students and the school division's Strategic Plan.

 

Elementary Regulation Highlights (Regulation 661-1):

  • Assessments will be weighted as follows: 60% for summatives and 40% for formatives.
  • Integrated homework expectations with a priority on reading and math practice for elementary students.
  • Grading flexibility added for Encore

Middle School Regulation Highlights (Regulation 661-2)

  • Summative assessments will make up 70% of the grade and formatives will make up 30%.
  • New integrated homework expectations provide guidelines for when grading is appropriate. The maximum time for homework across subjects is 90 minutes. 
  • LATE WORK: The penalty for late work must not exceed a letter grade. However, late work will not be accepted after 2 weeks barring unique exceptions (IEPs, 504s, ELL accommodations, etc.).
  • ALL MIDDLE SCHOOL will be graded on the new grading scale for grades 6-12.
  • Teachers will report actual assignment grades in the gradebook. Yearlong grades will be calculated by averaging the quality points of each of the four quarters. High School courses will include final exam grades.
