Porter Traditional School follows the guidelines established in PWCS regulation 663-1, which are summarized here:
The purpose of homework is to build interest in an upcoming topic, apply new knowledge and skills, revisit concepts for review, or prepare for an upcoming assessment.
When assigned, homework will be incorporated as a meaningful component of the instructional program, and students will receive feedback on their efforts.
Late work will be accepted up to two weeks past the deadline, and missing deadlines may be reflected in the grade.
Assigned homework across all subject areas will not exceed the following amount of time per night:
♦First and second grades: 10-20 minutes
♦ Third through fifth grades: 30-50 minutes
♦ Sixth through eighth grades: 60-90 minutes
No new assignments or summative assessments will be given as homework over breaks, holidays, or inclement weather closings. At all levels, students are highly encouraged to read outside of school.
