 We are excited to announce that we have a new staff position on our team this year....PORTER PARENT LIAISON!  And, she is looking forward to meeting and working with all of you. Mrs. Beverly Johnson, who most of you know as our Library Media Assistant, has excepted the challenge of being Porter's first parent liaison.   

Parent liaisons help build a strong relationship between home, school, parents, teachers, students, and the school community to create a positive network of caring adults, ensure the needs of each student are met, and have the support and services needed for academic success. It can be challenging for parents to visit the school during workdays and to know what educational support and resources are available to them. We understand there may be linguistic and cultural barriers that prevent parents from being engaged, we will work together to overcome these barriers.

MEET OUR PARENT LIAISON!!

 

The PORTER PARENT LIAISON offers the following services to assist you and your child:

  •  Encourages OPEN COMMUNICATION between you and your school personnel.
  • Can EXPLAIN the purpose and process of teacher conferences and school meetings.
  • Can EXPLAIN Porter’s policies, practices, and programs.
  • Provides INFORMATION about our school goals, resources, and activities.

 

Parent's role for a SUCCESSFUL STUDENT: 

  • A parent that is ACTIVELY ENGAGED in their child’s education and supports their learning at home.
  • A parent who UNDERSTANDS and ACKNOWLEDGES the importance of learning.
  • A parent that assists with MONITORING their child’s progress.
  • A parent who ADVOCATES for their child and has the tools necessary to positively impact their children.
