We are excited to announce that we have a new staff position on our team this year....PORTER PARENT LIAISON! And, she is looking forward to meeting and working with all of you. Mrs. Beverly Johnson, who most of you know as our Library Media Assistant, has excepted the challenge of being Porter's first parent liaison.
Parent liaisons help build a strong relationship between home, school, parents, teachers, students, and the school community to create a positive network of caring adults, ensure the needs of each student are met, and have the support and services needed for academic success. It can be challenging for parents to visit the school during workdays and to know what educational support and resources are available to them. We understand there may be linguistic and cultural barriers that prevent parents from being engaged, we will work together to overcome these barriers.

The PORTER PARENT LIAISON offers the following services to assist you and your child:
- Encourages OPEN COMMUNICATION between you and your school personnel.
- Can EXPLAIN the purpose and process of teacher conferences and school meetings.
- Can EXPLAIN Porter’s policies, practices, and programs.
- Provides INFORMATION about our school goals, resources, and activities.
Parent's role for a SUCCESSFUL STUDENT:
- A parent that is ACTIVELY ENGAGED in their child’s education and supports their learning at home.
- A parent who UNDERSTANDS and ACKNOWLEDGES the importance of learning.
- A parent that assists with MONITORING their child’s progress.
- A parent who ADVOCATES for their child and has the tools necessary to positively impact their children.

The PWCS Family Engagement Series provides families with resources that will assist with their student’s success. The series is led by the PWCS Community Outreach, Business Partnerships and Philanthropy Department, in collaboration with other PWCS programs, and community and business partners.

SEAS Showcase
The Student Environmental Action Showcase (SEAS) will take place at Woodbridge High School on Saturday, April 25, 2026. We will have a story hour between 10-11:00 am with set-up and clean-up extending from 9:30 am until 11:30 pm. We are looking for volunteers who will assist with the family craft activities to accompany the selected books. Story time will be led by librarians, and we will need helpers to guide parents and children through a craft activity. The intended audience is families who have students participating in SEAS, are waiting for judging to be completed, and may have brought their other children with them.
All materials will be provided. We just need the hands and hearts to help create a fun, engaging activity while these families wait for their student's project to be judged!
